I was (re-)reading X-Men Origins: Magneto when I thought: how would I behave if I were a prisoner?
Would I turn on my fellow inmates? Deal in contraband to make life in that camp less miserable, ala the titular character in James Clavells’ King Rat? Drive myself mad with escape fantasies? Join a resistance movement?
So I started to write an article named “Should I Wait for Darkness?” and realized it could be expanded. Enough to be a book, which could turn into a text-based game. This story would have been an introduction to the game’s universe. I’ve scrapped that project.
La Barilo literally means “the fence” in Esperanto: a language I’m learning because of the anti-fascism of the community that speaks it.
Also: this book isn’t something you’d want to read if squeamish. I don’t go into deep detail when describing carnage or conflict, but survival isn’t always pretty.
Now go forth and seek some answers.
